Hyndburn Labour is proud to announce its strong support for the use of local contractors as a fundamental part of the  Levelling Up Investment in Accrington Town Centre. Cllr Noordad Aziz made the recommendation at the Hyndburn Borough Council Special Scrutiny meeting as they received an update on the Levelling Up Project

Hyndburn Labour believes that engaging local businesses and contractors is vital to achieving sustainable progress and inclusive prosperity across the borough. This would use best practice from other successful projects like the ‘Preston Model’ to boost investment in the local economy and create additional opportunities for local people and businesses.

Councillor Noordad Aziz expressed enthusiasm for this proposal, stating:

“We believe that supporting our local Hyndburn contractors not only fosters economic growth but also cultivates a sense of pride and ownership within our community. By utilising the skills of our local talent, we can shape this project so that it reflects our residents’ values and aspirations.”

Hyndburn Labour’s initiative would provide local contractors with a unique opportunity to be part of shaping the future of Accrington Town Centre. Through a transparent and competitive selection process, the proposal would encourage council to establish meaningful partnerships with local contractors who are based in the area and  have a local understanding.

This move underscores Hyndburn Labour’s dedication to championing the interests of the local community and ensuring that the benefits of investment in Hyndburn impact more residents and local businesses. Hyndbuen Labour believes encouragement of the use of local contractors will foster job creation and economic resilience in the local Hyndburn economy.
